Should a new wood deck be stained right away?
No, we don't recommend it. New boards still carry the manufacturer's protective treatment, so it is better to wait one to three years before the first stain or oil, depending on how hard the winters are. We'll tell you when your deck is ready and can take care of it for you.
Can the deck go around a tree?
Yes. We frame and cut the boards around trees, pipes and other obstacles, and leave the room a tree needs to grow.
Can you build benches, planters or privacy screens into the deck?
Yes. Built-in benches, planters and screens are a big part of what makes a deck feel custom, and we plan them in from the start.
Composite or wood: which should I choose?
During the estimate Dmitriy walks you through both, with reasons, and recommends what fits your use, upkeep and budget.
Do I need a permit?
Some decks do. Dmitriy will tell you during the estimate whether yours needs one and what that involves.
What does the warranty cover?
New work comes with a 2-year warranty on our workmanship. Wood is a natural material that moves and weathers with the seasons; we'll tell you what is normal and what needs attention. When the warranty period ends, we come back at no charge to check that everything is right and adjust anything that needs it. Every situation is individual, so if something doesn't look right, just call or text us. A visit and assessment are always free, even after the warranty period.
